Healthy Food Made Easy
What is Healthy Food Made Easy’? (HFME)
- A peer-led HSE community programme to increase knowledge, skills and confidence around healthy eating & simple cooking.
- Helps participants make affordable, healthier choices when shopping, cooking and eating which in turn can help reduce diet-related conditions.
- Focus is on group learning, fun activities & cooking together- all participants get involved!
- 6 sessions of 2- 2.5hours covering: the food pyramid, fibre, fats, shopping on a budget, food labelling, feeding the family along with cooking 1 simple meal each week
- Face-to-face programmes offered by the Glen Resource Centre in collaboration with the HSE.
- HSE dietitian provides a Q&A visit to 1 session of each programme run.
- HFME is 1 of the 5 key supports offered to the Slaintecare ‘Healthy Communities’ initiative (SHC) across Cork City northside.
Who can join?
- Adults struggling with healthy eating on a budget & limited cooking skills.
- Targets disadvantaged populations eg. low-income households, single parents, men’s groups, isolated groups in the community etc., but with current high cost of living, it will benefit a wider audience also.
- Minimum group number of 8 people – 10-12 is a good number to allow engaging discussion & interactive group work/ cooking.
- Courses will be organised based on demand, suitability of the group & availability of tutor.
- Programmes run in the Slaintecare ‘Healthy Communities’ (SHC) area are free to join (Knocknaheeny, Fair Hill, Churchfield, Gurranabraher, Farranree, The Glen, Mayfield, Blackpool). Programmes also offered elsewhere across Cork City & County – small fee may apply. All programmes are coordinated by the Glen Resource Centre.
- We welcome expressions of interest from community groups who would benefit – ideally HFME is delivered at their local venue as facilities allow.
- Individuals can register for scheduled programmes or express interest for future courses.
